Sir James Matthew Barrie was a Scottish author. He was born on May 9, 1860, in Angus, Scotland. Barrie is most famous as the creator of Peter Pan, a free-spirited young boy who refuses to grow up. His notable works include The Little Minister (1891), Jess (1898) and The Little White Bird (1902). Most of his early works are marked by the Scottish dialect, humour and sentimentality. Barrie also wrote plays even though they were rejected by critics. However, he finally gained success with Quality Street (1901), a four-part comedy and The Admirable Crichton (1902). But Barrie s fame rested with his novel Peter Pan; or, the Boy Who Wouldn t Grow Up (1904). Barrie was made a baronet by King George V in 1913. He died on June 19, 1937, in London, England.
